Historical Biography

Mohamed-Tariq Ekeramodien Kahn, was born in Worcester, South Africa, the son of Shaykh Mohamed Ekeramodien, the son of Maulana Shaykh Ekeramodien of Samarqand. Ekeramodien is known as an Uzbek family name Ikramov in Uzbekistan. According to Maulana Shaykh Ekeramodien historical reports his family line is Shibanid (Shaybanid) related through the line of Juji to Ghingiz Khan. Mohamed-Tariq is a Full Professor of Electrical Engineering, Research Chair in Energy, Director of the Energy Institute, and heads two research centres, namely the Centre for Distributed Power and Electronic Systems and the Centre for Research in Power Systems. He is the author of several books including co-author of the University level textbook called "Concise Higher Electrical Engineering", as well as over 200 refereed scientific journal and conference proceedings papers. He is one of the organising committee/ review board member of several international annual conferences including convening the "Domestic Use of Energy Conference" and the "Industrial and Commercial use of Energy Conference," and currently convening the AIUE International Conferences, some of which was conducted in conjunction with Enlit Africa. He is also a keynote speaker at several international conferences. Mohamed-Tariq Ekeramodien holds a Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Masters and Doctoral Degrees in Engineering and is the supervisor of over 130 Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral Students in Electrical Engineering and Energy Engineering. He successfully mentored and supervised 27 Doctoral students, some of who are key industry leaders today, nationally and internationally.
